About Laurinda on Leadership

“Courage allows the successful woman to fail-
And learn powerful lessons from failure-
So that in the end she didn’t fail at all”
Maya Angelou

Girlfriends, let’s talk. I was going to quote a bunch of disheartening stats regarding Black Women in Corporate America. But we can look around and know there aren’t a lot of us here. There are even fewer of us in the coveted C-suite. With so few,  it’s hard to find mentor who understands the “double” life we lead.

I started my career as an engineer, full of myself and idolizing my intellect. My people skills were horrible. It was only when I began working on my leadership skills and honestly getting over myself, that I began to be comfortable in my own skin at work.

Approaching my career with a leadership mindset has somewhat soften the burden of the duality we find ourselves living. The language of leadership can transcend any boundary. But the leadership hurdles we encounter are clearly different than our white male counterparts. I am constantly “re-engineering” my thoughts to help me succeed in life.

I’ve made lots of mistakes and continue to make lots of mistakes. But as Maya Angelou states, those mistakes have been some of the greatest & most powerful lessons I’ve learned. This blog chronicles those lessons learned (past and present) to help you.  If you are reading this, chances are you and I are alike in that we surf the web and reading books looking for insight into what we deal with at work, home and families. I pray it helps to re-engineer your thoughts toward leadership too!

I’m not selling anything, at least not yet. Sign up to receive my posts via email or RSS feed (click here if you don’t know what an RSS feed is). I hope you find my insight helpful and would love to hear your stories.
