About Laurinda Bellinger, PMP
A woman who balances intellect and empathy, Laurinda Bellinger in 1995 began a PhD. program in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU). During this time, Laurinda also began an active part in ministry teaching bible study, discipleship prayer and participating in inner city outreach with her younger brother Larry. These two experiences led to her discovery that teaching and developing
others was her first love. By 1998 she became a highly sought after facilitator on campus – teaching in the Colleges of Engineering, Business, Education, Natural Science and The Student Athlete Support Center. In 2000, MSU’s College of Business hired Laurinda as the Senior Program Coordinator for their Multicultural Business Programs.
Prior to becoming a Senior Project Manager in the Customer Service – Airports Division for Alaska Airlines, Laurinda was a test engineer for 3M and a process engineer for Motorola. She currently manages a portfolio of projects, which include divisional software integration, aircraft integrations, and station start-ups. She is also active in Alaska’s diversity efforts and oversaw the launch of the Black Employee’s Resource Group.
Bellinger’s magic is her ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences in a manner that makes sense to them. Laurinda believes that teaching constitutes the meeting of the minds; student is teacher as much as teacher is student. She believes there is no greater act of service than to help someone be more tomorrow than they are today. Her hallmark is her transparent forthrightness: she speaks from her heart her life’s victories and painful failures.
Notwithstanding, Bellinger has facilitated numerous workshops on leadership skills for women and engineers over the past 10 years. As it was during her experience at Michigan State, helping people develop as leaders continues to be her passion.
Some of Laurinda’s workshop titles include:
- Is it because I’m Black or because I’m a Woman?
- 7 Irrefutable Laws of Feminine Leadership
- Leadership skills for Project Managers
- DaVinci Principles for an Effective Life
Laurinda holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University. She is a certified Lean facilitator with the Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. She maintains the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Her activities include the Project Management Institute, National Speakers Association Academy member, and various writing groups. Bellinger has every intention of finishing her PhD. degree, but not in engineering.
Laurinda Bellinger – a practical yet scholarly woman of influence – she’s been involved with National Society of Black Engineers since her undergraduate years at MSU. She is a jazz and classically trained saxophonist, enjoys Seattle Symphony concerts, science fiction and good wine with close friends. She currently resides in near Seattle, Washington, her native state.
